Machine losses in the state rose 5.3 per cent in year-on-year terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Australia.-\u00a0The\u00a0Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC)\u00a0<\/strong>has reported that player losses on electronic gaming machines (EGMs) reached AU$294.3m (US$194.4m) in August. That’s an increase of 2.6 per cent from the AU$286.9m (US$189.5m) lost in July and a 5.3 per cent when compared to AU$279.4m (US$184.5m) in August 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of August 30, 26,248 EGMs were operating in 482 venues in Victoria. The City of Brimbank <\/strong>saw the most significant rise in losses with a 2.14 per cent increase to AU$16.6m (US$10.9m).\u00a0Casey <\/strong>followed with a 3 per cent increase to AU$15.6m (US$10.3m), while Whittlesea <\/strong>saw a 2.81 per cent rise to AU$14.7m (US$9.7m).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The local government areas (LGAs) with the lowest player losses were Buloke, with AU$139,886 (US$92,416), a decrease of 4.15 per cent; Loddon, with AU$169,998 (US$112,319), down 3.21 per cent; and Strathbogie, with AU$211,119 (US$139,473), an increase of 0.89 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first eight months of 2025, losses were AU$2.12bn (US$1.4bn). That’s an increase of 4.43 per cent in year-on-year terms, compared to a loss of AU$2.03bn (US$1.34bn) between January and August 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mandatory carded play trial comes into effect<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In September, the state government mandated the start of a carded play trial, requiring players to use a YourPlay card and set personal loss limits before operating EGMs at 43 gaming venues in Monash, Greater Dandenong, and Ballarat participating in a three-month initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trial had initially been slated for mid-2025 but was pushed back\u00a0following the passage of the Gambling Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 in May<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n
