The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has committed PHP50m (US$860,000) in financial assistance<\/strong> to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The donation is intended to strengthen operations against illegal gaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGCOR chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco <\/strong>and NBI director Jaime Santiago <\/strong>signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formalise the support. An initial PHP25m (US$430,000) was immediately turned over, representing the first tranche of the assistance, during the MOA signing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the ceremony at the PAGCOR Corporate Office in Pasay City, Tengco said the partnership underscores PAGCOR\u2019s mission not only to regulate gaming and generate revenues for nation-building but also to protect the integrity of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis morning, we are signing a Memorandum of Agreement that underscores the shared responsibility of PAGCOR and the NBI in promoting lawful, fair, and responsible gaming in the Philippines,\u201d he said. \u201cThis assistance will defray the cost of food and expenses for POGO detainees, as well as support the Bureau\u2019s legitimate operations against illegal gaming activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: \u201cIllegal gambling operators undermine our laws, exploit our people, and put our communities at risk. By working hand in hand with the NBI, we are sending a strong message that we will not allow unlawful gaming practices to persist.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBI director Santiago said PAGCOR\u2019s assistance would boost the Bureau\u2019s capabilities to pursue its mandate. \u201cThe NBI welcomes PAGCOR\u2019s assistance as it will enable us to step up our operations against illegal POGOs<\/strong> and other unlawful gaming activities. This partnership affirms our shared duty to uphold the law and protect the Filipino people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n
