Macau.- Casinos in Macau were able to reopen after 33 hours of closure due to Super Typhoon Ragasa<\/a>. The city\u2019s gaming venues were told to shut temporarily by 5pm on Tuesday (September 23), as the weather bureau raised its tropical cyclone Signal No.8. They were permitted to reopen at 2am today (September 25) after the city lifted its emergency response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Signal No. 8 or above is issued, public bus services in Macau, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge shuttle bus service, and the light rapid transit rail system are also suspended. The signal level for Super Typhoon Ragasa reached as high as a No. 10 signal for over 10 hours before being downgraded to No. 8 at 4pm Wednesday and No. 3 at 11 pm. Ferry services between Hong Kong and Macau resumed today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week, Citigroup\u00a0revised downwards its gross gaming revenue (GGR) forecast for September<\/a> due to the casino closures. Analysts now expect GGR to reach MOP18.5bn (US$2.3bn), down from a previous estimate of MOP19.5bn (US$2.4bn) and an initial expectation of MOP20bn (US$2.48bn). That still represents a year-on-year growth of 7 per cent, equivalent to approximately 84 per cent of the same period in 2019, and implies average daily gaming revenue of MOP561m ($69.6m) for the remaining days of the month.
