{"id":777032045,"date":"2025-09-23T08:21:40","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T11:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777032045"},"modified":"2026-04-21T18:55:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T21:55:15","slug":"citigroup-cuts-macau-september-ggr-forecast-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/citigroup-cuts-macau-september-ggr-forecast-again","title":{"rendered":"Citigroup cuts Macau September GGR forecast again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Analysts expect September gaming revenue to be affected by Super Typhoon Ragasa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- <strong>Citigroup<\/strong> has revised downwards its gross gaming revenue (GGR) forecast for September for the second time <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/citigroup-cuts-macau-september-ggr-forecast\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/citigroup-cuts-macau-september-ggr-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in a week<\/a> due to possible casino closures caused by <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/temporary-closure-of-casinos-when-typhon-signal-reaches-no-8-or-above\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/temporary-closure-of-casinos-when-typhon-signal-reaches-no-8-or-above\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Super Typhoon Ragasa<\/a>. Analysts now expect GGR to reach MOP18.5bn (US$2.3bn), down from a previous estimate of MOP19.5bn (US$2.4bn) and an initial expectation of MOP20bn (US$2.48bn).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest reduction represents a year-on-year growth of 7 per cent, equivalent to approximately 84 per cent of the same period in 2019. This implies average daily gaming revenue of about MOP561m ($69.6m) for the remaining days of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citigroup said that GGR for the <strong>first 21 days of September<\/strong> likely reached MOP13.45bn (US$1.7bn), implying average daily GGR of approximately MOP664m (US$82.4m) over the past week (15-21 September), a 16 per cent increase from the average daily GGR of MOP575m in September 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citigroup\u00a0recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/citigroup-raises-macau-full-year-ggr-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revised upwards<\/a>\u00a0its forecast for the full year to MOP248.6bn (US$31.1bn), up from a previous estimate of MOP235.7bn (US$29.15bn).\u00a0Analysts\u00a0<strong>George Choi<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Timothy Chau<\/strong>\u00a0noted that this would imply 14-per cent year-on-year growth for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Typhoon alert<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Casinos in Macau are on alert amid the approach of Super Typhoon Ragasa, which could lead to the <strong>temporary closure of venues<\/strong>. As usual, the government will order the closure of all casinos if the typhoon reaches <strong>signal 8 or above<\/strong>. Macau\u2019s weather bureau said on Monday there was a \u201chigh probability\u201d it would reach signal 8 from Tuesday (September 23) afternoon to evening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sam Hou Fai<\/strong>, Macau\u2019 chief executive, convened a press conference on Monday alongside five secretaries to outline preparations.
