{"id":777031824,"date":"2025-09-18T07:06:49","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T10:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777031824"},"modified":"2026-04-21T19:04:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T22:04:23","slug":"indonesia-updates-the-number-of-pieces-of-online-gaming-content-removed-since-october-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/indonesia-updates-the-number-of-pieces-of-online-gaming-content-removed-since-october-2024","title":{"rendered":"Indonesia provides updates on number of pieces of online gaming content removed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Authorities say 2.1 million pieces of gambling content have been removed since October 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Indonesia.-\u00a0<strong>Alexander Sabar<\/strong>, minister of communication and digital affairs (Komdigi), has announced that his ministry removed <strong>2.8 million pieces of content from the internet<\/strong>, including 2.1 million linked to online gambling, between October 20, 2024, and September 16, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sabar said that<strong> 1,932,131 items were removed from websites<\/strong>, 97,779 from file-sharing platforms, 94,004 from Meta apps, 35,092 from Google, 17,417 from X (formerly Twitter), 1,742 from Telegram, 1,001 from TikTok, 14 from Line, and three from application stores. &#8220;These efforts are intended to safeguard the public and ensure that our digital space remains clean, safe, healthy, productive, and compliant,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gambling in Indonesia is illegal\u00a0for both citizens and foreigners. Ministers are collaborating with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/indonesia-tightens-controls-to-curb-online-gambling-transactions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stop the use of payment and banking systems<\/a> for online gambling. The government also implemented a monitoring system using artificial intelligence to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/indonesia-to-use-ai-to-fight-illegal-online-gambling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detect websites associated with online gambling<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, police froze Rp 154.3bn (US$9.5m) suspected of being linked to online gambling networks. The funds were in 811 bank accounts allegedly used to place wagers or store proceeds, according to the National Police\u2019s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Indonesian politician demands action on gambling allegations against ex-minister<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Politicians are pushing for action on allegations that former minister of communication and information Budi Arie Setiadi was involved in protecting illegal gambling websites during his tenure under Joko Widodo\u2019s administration. It\u2019s been alleged that he received a 50 per cent share of proceeds from sites that weren\u2019t blocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The allegations arose in a trial testimonies, including from Denden Imadudin Soleh, a former Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) employee and defendant in the case. Soleh alleged that Budi Arie was aware of and benefited from arrangements to shield online gambling platforms.
