India.- A Delhi court has discharged former MP DP Yadav and six others in an online gambling case, citing insufficient evidence. The ruling, delivered by Vaibhav Chaurasia, ends a nearly decade-long case that began after a police raid on an operation called GAME in Bhajanpura, northeast Delhi, in August 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some 14 individuals were arrested and over INR13.24m (US$159,000) was seized in the raid. Prosecutors alleged that Yadav protected the syndicate in exchange for 40 per cent of profits. However, the court found no direct evidence or witness testimony linking Yadav to the operation, stating his name was likely used \u201cto inculcate fear among rivals\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court rejected the prosecution\u2019s reliance on call detail records (CDRs), noting that without recorded conversations, CDRs alone could not establish Yadav\u2019s complicity. \u201cThere is no material on record to prove the proximity of accused D.P. Yadav with respect to the gambling,\u201d the court ruled, as reported by ANI and The Times of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Yadav and six others were discharged, charges remain against the nine other accused under the Indian Penal Code, Delhi Public Gambling Act, and Information Technology Act for cheating and gambling-related offences.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
