Ten people have been arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

South Korea.- Police have dismantled an alleged illegal online gambling ring. The Daegu National Police Agency\u2019s Cybercrime Investigation Team announced the arrest of 10 individuals, including the alleged ringleader, a man in his 30s identified as \u201cA.\u201d Seven suspects, including A, are in custody, charged with violating the National Sports Promotion Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The syndicate, allegedly ran an illegal gambling site from February 2022 to July 2023, recruiting over and processing transactions totalling KRW44bn (US$31m). Operating from Cambodia to evade detection, the group allegedly used tourist visas and a structured hierarchy with roles for deposits, withdrawals, member management and surveillance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police seized KRW270m (US$193,000) in cash and froze KRW120m (US$86,000). Non-custodial charges were filed against 174 gamblers. The police are collaborating with Interpol to pursue suspects abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n
