Anutin Charnvirakul has expressed opposition to Thailand’s proposed casino legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Thailand.- There are doubts over the future of the plans to legalise land-based casinos in Thailand at integrated resorts following the election of Anutin Charnvirakul as prime minister. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While his administration is expected to govern only for a short transitional period, pledging to dissolve parliament within four months and call new elections, Charnvirakul had expreessed opposition to the Entertainment Complex bill<\/a>, which seeks to allow resorts combining casinos, hotels, shopping malls and entertainment venues as a means to boost tourism income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charnvirakul won 311 out of 490 votes in parliament, surpassing the Pheu Thai Party nominee Chaikasem Nitisiri. Both Charnvirakul\u2019s Bhumjaithai Party and the supporting People\u2019s Party have consistently opposed the casino bill<\/a>, which led to it being dropped from the House agenda earlier in the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra was a strong supporter of the casino proposal but was removed from office by court order<\/a> \u2013 the fifth time since 2008 that a Thai leader has been ousted through judicial or legal rulings.<\/p>\n\n\n
