New Zealand.- Sports clubs have raised concerns over the proposed Online Casino Gambling Bill<\/a>, which they say could end up reducing funding for community programmes. The bill would regulate online gambling, allowing up to 15 casino operators, but, unlike physical venues, these would not have to share profits with communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sport Manawat\u016b, alongside regional sports organisations, claims that up to 5,000 children could lose access to sports if the regulation of online gambling affects profits from land-based venues. Sport Manawat\u016b\u2019s Kelly Shanks is to address parliament on September 8, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bill\u2019s supporters argue it will create a safer gambling market, protect consumers, and raise NZ$81m (US$47m) for gambling harm prevention. But critics, including Cycling NZ\u2019s Martin Snedden says it could lead to the collapse of volunteer-run clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n
