The raid on August 30 targeted a group that had allegedly been active for several months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the syndicate recruited victims by posing as women on Facebook. \u201cThe victims are then persuaded to access a gambling website while the betting and withdrawal of money is carried out via WhatsApp using an overseas bank account,\u201d he told reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suspects are 29 men and five women. Shazeli said the group earned between RM2,000 (US$470) and RM2,500 (US$590) per day. All 34 suspects, including one Malaysian national, were remanded for four days starting August 31, with police applying for an extension at the Shah Alam Magistrates\u2019 Court.
