Kazakhstan.- The Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) is exploring whether influencers who promote online casinos in Kazakhstan could face criminal liability after repeat violations of an advertising ban introduced last year. Officials argue that administrative fines, which start at KZT200,000 (US$420), have failed to deter content creators, many of whom continue to advertise gambling platforms due to high earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The FMA said it has identified 34 influencers involved in online gambling promotion this year and that 11 had already been fined. Authorities are now assessing whether these activities could be interpreted as aiding illegal gambling, which would place them under the same legal framework as promoters of financial pyramid schemes, an offence that carries criminal sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since January, more than 17,000 gambling-related websites have been blocked. Authorities have also pledged to probe domestic payment providers that facilitate transactions.
