Hong Kong.- Police in Hong Kong have arrested 208 people aged between 20 and 89 in a five-day anti-triad operation in New Territories North code-named \u201cOperation Wind Valley\u201d. They say they shut 17 illegal gambling dens allegedly controlled by triad groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those arrested included 15 property owners, four building tenants and a person holding an account used to receive e-payments. Officers also seized gambling chips valued at HK$700,000 (US$89,600) and HK$20,000 in cash. Each venue is believed to have generated HK$50,000\u2013HK$100,000 in monthly profits, according to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Inspector Kwok Man-wai of the New Territories North\u2019s regional anti-triad unit, said: \u201cOperators provided QR codes for gamblers to make online payments, which made the investigation even more difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome of the property owners had already received warnings from the force in the past, but they repeatedly ignored our warnings. These gambling establishments were reopened at the same locations again after some time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
