Thailand.- Police in Thailand say they have dismantled a large-scale operation that illegally streamed Premier League football matches to link to online gambling platforms. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) led coordinated raids in Chiang Mai, seizing assets worth millions of baht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least nine websites are said to have broadcast matches without authorisation, infringing the exclusive rights held by TrueVisions until last season and now by Jasmine International. Investigators said the platforms directed users to football betting, lotteries, baccarat and slot games, many run by overseas operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheme, active since 2020, relied on more than 150 dummy accounts to launder money, causing estimated losses of over THB2bn (US$61m) to TrueVisions and an additional THB240m (US$7m) through gambling-related activity, police say. Assets seized include eight bank accounts, a house, a pickup truck, and two motorcycles, one of them a Harley-Davidson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities identified four groups behind the operation: account holders, often low-income or foreign nationals; website administrators and developers; money handlers, and financiers. Some suspects have been charged with money laundering, copyright infringement, and gambling offences, while others remain at large, with some thought to have fled abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n
