The Australian regulator says it has requested blocks against four unlicensed sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA<\/strong>) has requested that Australian online service providers (ISPs) block four more unlicensed online gambling sites<\/strong> for violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The sites are Slot Mafia, Top Aussie Pokies, Polymarket, and Spinanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, 1,296 illegal gambling and affiliate websites<\/strong> have been blocked. Around 220 illegal services have also pulled out of the Australian market since the ACMA started enforcing new illegal online gambling rules in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Australian regulator reminded consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it\u2019s unlikely to have important customer protections. Customers can check if a wagering service is licensed to operate in Australia on its register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two weeks ago, ACMA ordered\u00a0Betfair\u00a0to pay a\u00a0AU$871,660 (US$567,082)<\/a>\u00a0penalty after breaching spam laws in commercial messages sent to VIP customers.\u00a0 The regulator recently issued a request to block\u00a0five gambling websites<\/a>\u00a0for violations of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. It also warned\u00a0four licensed betting operators<\/a>, Buddybet, Ultrabet, VicBet, and Topbet, for breaching rules by sending marketing material to people who registered with BetStop, the National Self-Exclusion Register (NSER).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
