{"id":777030216,"date":"2025-08-12T08:09:25","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T11:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777030216"},"modified":"2026-04-21T20:12:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T23:12:18","slug":"victorian-regulator-fines-questbet-for-gambling-harm-failures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/victorian-regulator-fines-questbet-for-gambling-harm-failures","title":{"rendered":"Victoria regulator fines QuestBet for gambling harm failures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>QuestBet has been ordered to pay a US$51,941 fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.- The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has fined <strong>QuestBet<\/strong> for continuing to accept bets from a customer displaying \u201cobservable signs of gambling-related distress.\u201d The online bookmaker has been ordered to pay <strong>AU$80,000 (US$51,941)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Suzy Neilan<\/strong>, VGCCC CEO, said QuestBet\u2019s non-compliance with gambling harm minimisation obligations was indicative of a concerning culture. \u201cOur investigation of QuestBet\u2019s practices found the bookmaker failed to have in place adequate systems to protect individuals identifiably at risk of gambling harm,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMinimising gambling harm is an obligation every operator holds \u2013 including bookmakers \u2013 who must monitor customer wellbeing and intervene if they observe signs of distress. This substantial penalty demonstrates the seriousness of the bookmaker\u2019s failure to meet its legal and moral obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a customer who claimed QuestBet had allowed them to lose a significant sum of money in a matter of weeks without intervention. The VGCCC found that between April and June 2023, the customer contacted QuestBet more than 20 times to request additional credits and bonus bets. On six occasions, they mentioned having experienced several large losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was a clear sign that the customer was struggling. A sign that QuestBet chose to ignore, instead encouraging and enabling the customer to keep gambling with the aid of bonus bets in 5 of the 6 occasions.
