Malaysia.- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)<\/strong> says it has removed 321,012 gambling-related posts<\/strong> since January 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching<\/strong> said takedowns carried out between 1 January 2022 and 1 August 2025 under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, also targeted 119,273 posts linked to fraud, 43,585 containing obscene material, 35,420 involving bullying or sexual harassment, and 38,818 flagged as false information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MCMC works in coordination with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), and Bank Negara Malaysia to remove online material. The Commission introduced new measures in 2025, including the launch of AIFA, an AI-powered chatbot that helps the public verify suspicious content and complements the fact-checking portal Sebenarnya.my. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From this year, all social media platforms operating in Malaysia are required to obtain an ASP(C) licence and comply with a new Code of Conduct to safeguard minors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
