Malaysia.- Two police officers from Johor have been remanded for seven days as part of an ongoing investigation into a bribery case. The officers were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the MACC, the officers are suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes from in exchange for not taking enforcement action against illegal gambling<\/strong>. The Johor Bahru Magistrate\u2019s Court approved the remand request, extending the officers\u2019 detention until August 5. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of no less than five times the amount of the bribe, which is alleged to be around MYR635,000 (US$150,000).<\/p>\n\n\n
