The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has rolled out more than PHP30.41m (US$ 525,000) worth of emergency aid to communities affected by recent storms and flooding. As of July 26, it had distributed 33,250 relief packs, comprising 17,000 food packs and 16,250 non-food items, to local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila and other areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effort comes amid widespread disruption caused by the southwest monsoon and tropical storms, which have affected more than 5.29 million people across 17 regions, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGCOR chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco commented: \u201cAs millions in Metro Manila and other provinces suffer from torrential rains and floods, we quickly mobilized our relief operations team. We are morally- and duty-bound to come to the aid of Filipinos in times of need, and that includes being among the first responders when calamities strike.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
