Hong Kong.- The Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Sports Bureau of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in Urumqi have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for a long-term partnership designed to modernise and internationalise the region\u2019s equine industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five-year cooperation aims to upgrade Xinjiang’s equine industry and support national efforts to achieve development goals in the equine sector. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the club\u2019s chief executive officer; Andrew Harding, the club\u2019s executive director of Racing and members of the club\u2019s expert team paid a visit to Xinjiang in late July, where they were received by Erkin Tuniyaz, chairman of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xinjiang has China\u2019s largest horse population and is home to one of its most celebrated breed, the yili. Under the National Equine Industry Development Plan (2020-2025) and the Xinjiang Modern Equine Industry Development Plan (2019-2030), the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region aims to promote the integrated development of horse breeding, training, racing and horse culture tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n
