Singapore.- Las Vegas Sands <\/strong>has begun construction on a new US$8bn ultra luxury development<\/strong> at Marina Bay Sands<\/strong> in Singapore. It expects completion by June 2030<\/strong> with an anticipated opening date in January 2031 \u2013 a delay from the previous target date of July 8, 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The ground breaking ceremony was officiated by Singapore\u2019s prime minister and minister for finance Lawrence Wong<\/strong>, minister for Sustainability and the Environment and minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu<\/strong>, Sands co-founder Dr. Miriam Adelson<\/strong>, Sands chairman and chief executive officer Robert Goldstein<\/strong>, and Sands president and chief operating officer Patrick Dumont<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Marina Bay Sands expansion project includes a 55-storey, 570-suite hotel tower<\/strong> with dining, luxury retail, gaming and spa and wellness amenities. A key feature is the 76,000-square foot Skyloop podium \u2013 with an observatory, F&B and rooftop gardens, alongside infinity pools and cabanas. The property is also to feature a 15,000-seat arena.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sands chairman and chief executive officer Robert Goldstein<\/strong> said: \u201cWith its opening in 2010, our founder Sheldon G. Adelson embarked on a journey in Singapore with Marina Bay Sands and the people of Singapore that promised to change the face of tourism in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFifteen years later, we have delivered on these ambitions and more. Marina Bay Sands is the world\u2019s most successful integrated resort in history, and the gold standard in the industry. It has been truly incredible to witness Mr. Adelson\u2019s vision come to life, and we are proud to carry his legacy forward with today\u2019s groundbreaking ceremony for our new development here. We have every intention of delivering a product that will be the envy of the hospitality industry and usher in a new era of luxury tourism in Singapore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The new property is being designed by Safdie Architects, led by Moshe Safdie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sands president and chief operating officer Patrick Dumont<\/strong>, said: \u201cOver the years, Marina Bay Sands has been integral in strengthening Singapore\u2019s position as a major tourism powerhouse. By the time our new ultra-luxury development is complete, we will have invested more than US$15bn<\/strong> since we started operations in Singapore in 2010. We look forward to forging a new chapter together and continuing to contribute meaningfully to Singapore\u2019s future success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n In February, Las Vegas Sands announced that\u00a0Marina Bay Sands (MBS)<\/strong>\u00a0has secured\u00a0a loan of SG$12bn (US$8.96bn)<\/a>, the largest in Singapore\u2019s history. At least part of the funds will be used directly to finance the expansion of the Marina Bay Sands complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The expansion plan was initially announced in 2019. The deadline has been pushed back several times due to construction risks. LVS has reported that the renovation of Towers I and II <\/strong>of the IR is now complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
