Indonesia.- The Financial Services Authority (OJK) says it has ordered banks to block 17,026 accounts<\/strong> suspected of being tied to online gambling. It said the decision was backed by intelligence gathered by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Application<\/strong> (Komdigi), as part of a national campaign against financial crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not clear what timeframe it’s talking about, but the figure would more than doubles the 8,500 accounts blocked in 2024. Banks have been instructed to enhance due diligence (EDD), verify customer identities against national ID numbers (NIK), and monitor even dormant or routine accounts for signs of misuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OJK has also mandated cyber patrols and fund flow analysis to detect suspicious transactions <\/strong>and the misuse of bank branding online. Banks are required to report unusual activity to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PPATK says that 571,410 social aid recipients in 2024 were involved in online gambling. The upcoming Government Regulation on Online Gambling Eradication<\/a> will address prevention strategies and require greater cooperation from internet service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n
