South Korea.- Police say the have shut down an alleged illegal online gambling network that ran eight sites based in the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia from January 2019 to July 2024. Some 32 people were arrested for violating the National Sports Promotion Act and other laws, according to the South Chungcheong police agency\u2019s cybercrime investigation unit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, it’s estimated that over KRW530bn ($384m) was transacted in the past five years, generating at least KRW27.1bn in illicit profits. Clients were allegedly recruited through the Telegram app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, four people were arrested in Suwon, South Korea, for allegedly operating illegal online betting<\/a>. Those arrested are accused of operating an online gambling site which streamed live baccarat and slot machine games from overseas casinos and encouraged users to place bets. They\u2019re said to have operated from a rented apartment in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi between February and December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n
