Chief executive Sam Hou Fai has said the government will ensure gaming operators reassign the 5,600 local employees effected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Macau.- Chief executive Sam Hou Fai has announced that the Macau government will ensure gaming concessionaires allocate positions for local workers<\/a> that will be impacted by the closure satellite casinos<\/a> by the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sam Hou Fai said that of the 5,600 local employees affected, 4,800 are directly employed by gaming concessionaires and will retain employment as overseen by the government. The remaining 800 hired by satellite-casino operators, would be reassigned within parent companies under the terms of the Labour Relations Law<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He said: \u201cThe government will strictly enforce legal obligations of relevant gaming concessionaires through the Labour Affairs Bureau, and support business-environment improvements in affected areas, via the Economic and Technological Development Bureau.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n At least nine of the city\u2019s 11 satellite casinos are expected to cease operations by December 31. The casinos are: SJM\u2019s Casino Grandview, Casino Legend Palace, Casino Fortuna, Casino Landmark, Casino Ponte 16, Casino Le Royal Arc, Casino Emperor Palace, Casino Kam Pek Paradise and Casino Casa Real; Melco\u2019s Casino Grand Dragon and Galaxy\u2019s Casino Waldo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hou Fai stressed that the stability of employment for residents remains a top priority for the government. He said the closures would have a \u201climited impact on local gross domestic product\u201d and that the move was intended to ensure the lawful and healthy development of the gaming industry.
