India.- Three people have been arrested in Alwar, India, for allegedly operating illegal online betting <\/strong>in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. As reported by NDTV, police seized six Android phones, two laptops, a hard drive, an SUV and 15 ATM cards from the suspects. Officers said those arrested set up 30 websites that allowed betting on various sports, including the IPL, alongside online casino and region-specific offerings such as matka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police said more than 60,000 agents and players participated in the network and that the group was involved in every level of the business, from software development to laundering funds. Police have remanded those arrested for four days, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are seeking information about other members and associates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offshore betting dominates advertising complaints in India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI)\u00a0Annual Complaints 2024-25 Report shows that ads promoting offshore betting and gambling platforms accounted for the largest share of complaints in the period.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report, 3,081<\/strong> (43.52 per cent) of the 7,078 ads<\/strong> reviewed were linked to offshore betting and gambling sites, including 318 involving influencers promoting the platforms. The number of betting-related ads probed rose by 135 per cent year-over-year from 1,311 in 2023<\/strong>. The second-highest number of complaints related to the real estate sector (1,755 cases<\/strong>) followed by 233 ads<\/strong> for miracle cures, 21 ads <\/strong>for alcoholic beverages and 12<\/strong> for forex trading.<\/p>\n\n\n
