The number of full-time employees in the gaming sector has dropped by 1.1 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Macau.-\u00a0The\u00a0Statistics and Census Service (DSEC)<\/strong>\u00a0has shared data on the employment rate in Macau for the period between February and April. The number of full-time employees in the gaming sector decreased by\u00a0800 <\/strong>(or 1.1 per cent) year-on-year to 68,800.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employment in the wholesale and retail trade sector rose by 900 to 44,900.<\/strong> The construction sector saw a decrease of 1,000, to 21,400, and employment in hotels<\/strong> rose by 600 to 30,000. The number of people employed in restaurants and similar activities rose by 200 to 21,100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of\u00a0employed residents<\/strong>\u00a0rose by 1,700 to 281,900 and total employment increased by 1,400 to 373,200. Both the general unemployment rate (1.9 per cent) and the unemployment rate of residents (2.5 per cent) remained steady. The underemployment rates were up by 0.2 per cent to 1.4 per cent overall and 1.8 per cent for residents. Some 7,400 people were registered as unemployed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau occupancy rate rises in April<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The DSEC<\/strong> has reported that the average hotel occupancy rate in Macau was 87.8 per cent\u00a0in April<\/a>, a rise of 4.7 percentage points year-on-year. The number of available guest rooms dropped by 4.3 per cent to 45,000 while the average length of stay remained at 1.6 nights. The\u00a0number of guests at hotels\u00a0<\/strong>rose by 3.4 per cent year-on-year to 1,199,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inbound package tour visitors <\/strong>totalled 204,000, a 12.1 per cent increase, with those from mainland China growing by 11.8 per cent to 178,000. International tour visitors increased by 4 per cent to 20,000, with those from the Republic of Korea (8,000) up by 10.9 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
