Macau.- The\u00a0Financial Services Bureau has reported that Macau collected MOP29.84bn (US$3.71bn)<\/strong> in taxes from casino operations in the first four months of the year. The figure was flat in year-on-year terms. For April, MOP7.64bn (US$949.87m) was collected, down 3.9 per cent sequentially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cumulatively, GGR for the first four months of the year<\/a> was MOP76.51bn (US$9.54bn), up 0.8 per cent year-on-year. The figure was 23.3 per cent lower than the same period of 2019 (MOP99.74bn) (US$12.44bn). Tax revenue figures cannot be directly compared because there is usually a delay between when GGR is documented and when the government recognises the tax as being paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the 10-year concessions that came into effect on January 1, 2023, casinos pay 40 per cent on gross gaming revenue (GGR). The 2025 budget plan, which the Legislative Assembly approved in December, estimates that Macau\u2019s casino GGR will reach MOP240bn (US$29.7bn)<\/a> this year. Gaming taxes are expected to reach MOP93.12bn (US$11.6bn). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The take for the first four months of this year represents 32 per cent of that figure. Gambling tax amounted to 87.7 per cent of all state revenue (MOP34bn). <\/p>\n\n\n
