It has warned they could face hefty fines if they fail to remove illegal content.

Vicki Scott, director of gambling regulatory services, told Radio New Zealand (RNZ) that influencers were promoting online casinos via live streaming, promotional giveaways and links to websites. The DIA has already sent four warning letters and is looking into 13 other influencers. However, Scott said many more offenders may exist. The names have not been disclosed to protect their privacy and give them a chance to respond to the warnings.

Under New Zealand’s Gambling Act, advertising for offshore gambling operators is illegal. Failure to comply with takedown notices could result in fines of up to NZ$10,000 (US$5,717) per violation.
