Macau.-\u00a0The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC)\u00a0<\/strong>has reported that the average hotel occupancy rate in Macau was 90.6 per cent in February, a rise of 5.5 percentage points year-on-year. The number of available guest rooms decreased by 5.7 per cent year-on-year to 44,000 while the average length of stay remained at 1.6 nights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The occupancy rate for\u00a05-star hotels\u00a0<\/strong>was 93.6 per cent, up 5.1 percentage points, compared to\u00a04-star hotels\u00a0<\/strong>85.1 per cent, up 5.6 percentage points and 3-star hotels\u00a0<\/strong>87.2 per cent, up 7.9 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of guests at hotels <\/strong>dropped by 7.8 per cent year-on-year to 1,127,000. Guests from mainland China numbered 863,000, a decrease of 7.6 per cent. International guests increased to 86,000, up 17.5 per cent year-on-year: Republic of Korea 30,000, Japan 8,000, and Malaysia 6,000, up 22.6 per cent, 11.6 per cent, and 20.5 per cent respectively. Guests from Thailand numbered 6,000, Singapore 4,000, and Indonesia 4,000, up 30.7 per cent, 29.2 per cent, and 22.5 per cent respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inbound package tour visitors <\/strong>totalled 145,000, a 3.8 per cent yearly increase, with those from mainland China falling by 0.7 per cent to 124,000. International tour visitors were by 44.8 per cent to 19,000, with those coming from the Republic of Korea (11,000) up by 64.8 per cent. Some 35,000 Macau citizens contracted travel agencies for outbound services, a decrease of 7.2 per cent compared to the previous year. The number of residents travelling on package tours rose by 30 per cent year-on-year, reaching 8,000, with 7,000 visiting mainland China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first two months of the year<\/strong>, the average hotel occupancy rate rose by 5.2 percentage points year-on-year to 90.7 per cent. The number of guests decreased by 6.3 per cent year-on-year to 2,384,000. The average length of stay remained at 1.6 nights. A total of 304,000 inbound package tour visitors were recorded, an increase of 11.2 per cent year-on-year. Tour visitors from mainland China rose by 9.2 per cent year-on-year to 262,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau visitor numbers dip in February<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The DSEC <\/strong>has reported that 3,147,184 people visited Macau in February. The figure was down 4.4 per cent in year-on-year terms and down 13.69 per cent\u00a0sequentially<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Same-day visitors (1,887,826) rose by 1.1 per cent year-on-year, and overnight visitors (1,259,358) dropped by 11.7 per cent. The average length of stay remained steady at 1.1 days: 0.3 days for same-day visitors and 2.2 days for overnight visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau received 6,793,745 <\/strong>visitors in the first two months of the year. That\u2019s an increase of 10.4 per cent when compared to last year. Same-day visitors (4,043,105) grew by 20.8 per cent while overnight visitors (2,750,640) dropped by 2 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n
