That compares to a loss of approximately HK$36.1m (US$4.7m) reported for the same period in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement of the interim results of the group for the period is expected to be published on February 27. The company attributes the anticipated loss to rising general and administrative expenses due to <strong>increased staff costs<\/strong>, as well as depreciation and amortisation associated with the operation and management of the casino and the development of an integrated resort in Manila, Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last May, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/iec-begins-casino-operations-in-the-philippines\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IEC commenced casino operations<\/a>&nbsp;at New Coast Hotel Manila. The provisional licence was&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/pagcor-grants-iec-provisional-licence-for-ir\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">granted on September 27, 2023<\/a>, by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). The company committed to invest between US$1bn and US$1.2bn in the casino project.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"507\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/march_facade-507x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-777023288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/march_facade-507x600.jpg 507w, https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/02\/march_facade.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">New Coast Hotel Manila.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The company also reported there has been a rise in interest expenses related to bank borrowings, which, according to IEC, are necessary for establishing and operating the casino and developing the integrated resort under the provisional licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A week ago,&nbsp;IEC&#8217;s wholly-owned subsidiary&nbsp;<strong>New Coast Leisure (NCLI)<\/strong>&nbsp;signed a PHP1.47bn (US$25.5m) contract with Kimberland Construction for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/iec-subsidiary-signs-contract-for-renovation-of-new-coast-hotel-manila\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">renovation of&nbsp;New Coast Hotel Manila<\/a>. The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the company\u2019s filing, the agreement covers the designing, demolishing, constructing, furnishing and retrofitting of walls, ceilings and floor finishes, fixture cabinets and curtains, aircons, electricity systems, plumbing systems and fire-protection systems.
