{"id":777021893,"date":"2025-01-10T05:36:12","date_gmt":"2025-01-10T08:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777021893"},"modified":"2026-04-22T02:51:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T05:51:29","slug":"melco-opens-an-office-in-thailand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/melco-opens-an-office-in-thailand","title":{"rendered":"Melco opens an office in Thailand"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The casino operator is interested in developing an integrated resort once casinos are legalised in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Thailand.- <strong>Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment <\/strong>has opened an office in Bangkok, Thailand, while waiting for the government&#8217;s legalisation of casinos in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bangkok Post reported that Lawrence Ho, Melco&#8217;s chairman and CEO, attended the soft launch of the &#8220;THACCA Global Soft Power Talks&#8221; event, an\u00a0initiative spearheaded by the National Soft Power Strategy Committee in collaboration with Melco and scheduled for February 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the government, the &#8220;THACCA Global Soft Power Talks&#8221; aims to unite stakeholders in the creative and cultural sectors, propelling Thailand toward becoming a global leader in soft power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities said: &#8220;This program lays the foundation for sustainable growth in the digital and creative economy by fostering innovation and skill development in collaboration with businesses and educational institutions nationwide. Complexes would be located in designated areas and operated by companies registered in Thailand with a minimum paid-up capital of THB10bn (US$283m). A policy panel led by the prime minister and a regulatory agency would oversee the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/legalisation-of-casinos-in-thailand-45-suggestions-to-be-submitted-after-public-hearings\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a study by the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO)<\/a>, the establishment of IRs could increase visits to Thailand by 5 to 20 per cent and increase spending per visitor from THB40,000 (US$1,184) to THB60,000 (US$1,776).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts at Citigroup have forecast that casinos in&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/gambling-in-thailand-casinos-could-generate-us9-1bn-in-annual-ggr-analysts-say\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thailand could generate US$1.91bn annually in gross gaming revenue (GGR)<\/a>. That would surpass the GGR of Singapore\u2019s two casinos and place Thailand \u201conly behind Macau and Las Vegas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Thai government committee is currently analysing how many casino complexes will be allowed to be built in the country. Once the number is decided, the committee will present a report to the cabinet for approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thailand government reportedly plans to legalise online gambling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The government of Thailand is reportedly planning to start discussions about&nbsp;<strong>legalising online gambling<\/strong>.
