{"id":777018757,"date":"2024-09-04T08:37:16","date_gmt":"2024-09-04T11:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777018757"},"modified":"2026-04-22T06:28:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T09:28:15","slug":"queensland-gambling-regulator-questioned-over-star-brisbane-casino-approval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/queensland-gambling-regulator-questioned-over-star-brisbane-casino-approval","title":{"rendered":"Queensland gambling regulator questioned over  Star Brisbane casino approval"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Queensland Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation approved the licence two days before the release of a second inquiry report in New South Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Australia.- The Queensland Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) has been questioned for granting a casino licence to The Star Brisbane just two days before the\u00a0New South Wales Independent Casino Commission (NICC) released the report on\u00a0Adam Bell SC\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nicc-announces-second-inquiry-into-the-star-entertainment-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">second inquiry<\/a> into the operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBell Two\u201d found The Star to be \u201cfalling short of what is required from a suitable casino operator.\u201d Queensland shadow attorney-general <strong>Tim Nicholls <\/strong>has suggested that the OLGR might have been aware of the report&#8217;s conclusions before issuing the licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Queensland attorney-general<strong> Yvette D&#8217;Ath<\/strong> said the OLGR had been closely monitoring The Star\u2019s remediation efforts and was in regular communication with the NICC. She said: &#8220;We also acknowledge that NICC has not yet announced its response to the Bell Two report, and we\u2019ll continue to monitor the situation and work through any implications for The Star\u2019s Queensland operations.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Star Brisbane opens at Queen&#8217;s Wharf<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/queens-wharf-development-at-risk-amid-queenslands-review-of-star\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Star Brisbane at Queen\u2019s Wharf<\/a> soft-opened on August 29. The first phase of opening included the Neville Bonner Bridge, which connects South Bank to The Star Brisbane&#8217;s dining area, The Terrace, hotel The Star Grand and a public art gallery.
