{"id":777017113,"date":"2024-07-10T09:16:23","date_gmt":"2024-07-10T12:16:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777017113"},"modified":"2026-04-22T08:18:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T11:18:11","slug":"philippines-senate-panel-cites-suspended-mayor-alice-guo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippines-senate-panel-cites-suspended-mayor-alice-guo","title":{"rendered":"Philippines: Senate panel cites suspended mayor Alice Guo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Senator Risa Hontiveros has issued an arrest warrant for contempt of court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The Philippines.- A Senate panel has today (July 10) cited <strong>Alice Guo<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/bamban-mayor-suspended-over-alleged-gaming-links\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the suspended mayor of Bamban<\/a>, Tarlac, and seven others for failing to attend a committee inquiry into illegal gambling operators. <strong>Senator Risa Hontiveros<\/strong>, who chairs the Senate women&#8217;s committee, ruled to cite Guo and others in contempt following motions from senate president pro tempore Jinggoy Estrada and <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippine-senator-urges-alice-guo-to-expose-illicit-activities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">senator Sherwin Gatchalian<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hontiveros issued a warrant of arrest for Guo, which must be signed by the Senate president before it becomes effective. Guo had sent a letter to the Senate on Tuesday stating she was not &#8220;physically and mentally fit&#8221; to attend the hearing due to being the &#8220;subject of malicious accusations&#8221; and death threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She claimed she could not obtain a medical certificate as medical professionals feared humiliation. However, Estrada found Guo&#8217;s letter &#8220;unacceptable&#8221;. Nancy J.
