The Philippines.-\u00a0Two members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) have been arrested for allegedly working as unauthorised security escorts for a Chinese national associated with a gaming operator. George Mabuti\u00a0<\/strong>and Roger Valdez<\/strong>\u00a0were\u00a0arresed due to an altercation while off-duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) is permitted to provide protective security personnel to individuals facing credible threats to their safety. The Muntinlupa City\u00a0Prosecutor’s\u00a0Office ordered the release of Mabuti and Valdez from the Muntinlupa City Police Station pending further investigation and they were transferred to SAF headquarters in Fort Santo Domingo, Santa Rosa Laguna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven other officers are facing\u00a0administrative charges for alleged involvement in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senators\u00a0Risa Hontiveros\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Sherwin Gatchalian\u00a0<\/strong>have called for online gambling operators to be banned. In February, the House of Representatives Committee on Games and Amusements approved\u00a0two measures,\u00a0House Bill 5082 and Resolution 1197, which seek to\u00a0ban offshore gambling operators<\/a>.\u00a0However, Gatchalian has claimed that some people are protecting POGOs,\u00a0which is\u00a0preventing progress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
