Manglona has ruled the missing liquor was no longer part of IPI\u2019s debtor estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Northern Mariana Islands.-\u00a0The US District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands\u00a0has ruled that Imperial Pacific International (IPI)&#8217;s\u00a0automatic bankruptcy stay does not apply to a civil contempt proceeding involving stolen liquor bottles. Chief\u00a0judge\u00a0<strong>Ramona V. Manglona\u00a0<\/strong>noted that, when\u00a0the bankruptcy was filed, the stolen liquor was no longer part of\u00a0IPI&#8217;s\u00a0property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dispute over the stolen liquor came from a petition filed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/us-court-grants-writ-of-execution-request-to-former-ipi-employee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joshua Gray<\/a>, an IPI creditor, against the company and its executive director, Howyo Chi. Gray, a former IPI director, won  US$5m after suing the company for discrimination and wrongful termination. His petition sought to hold IPI and Chi in contempt for the stolen liquor as well as a daily fine of US$10,000 for non-compliance and\u00a0legal fees.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0court&#8217;s\u00a0ruling deemed the contempt proceedings to be outside the scope of the automatic stay, allowing them to proceed independently. Clear Management was appointed\u00a0as the limited receiver for\u00a0the sale of\u00a0IPI&#8217;s\u00a0property,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/clear-management-to-sell-ipi-liquor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including liquor inventory<\/a>.\u00a0Gray&#8217;s\u00a0petition claimed that IPI did not ensure proper security for the liquor, leading to theft. However,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/ipi-director-denies-blame-for-missing-liquor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IPI has argued that the receiver was responsible<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Judge Ramona V.
