Northern Mariana Islands.-\u00a0Governor Arnold I. Palacios<\/strong> has stated that the Commonwealth needs to accept\u00a0the fact\u00a0that Imperial Pacific International (IPI) is no longer a viable company <\/strong>and move on. In an interview with The Saipan Tribune, he said:\u00a0“We just got to put a closure to it and move on.\u00a0Maybe,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0made a mistake. They made a mistake.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week,\u00a0IPI applied for Chapter 11 bankruptcy<\/a>\u00a0as it seeks\u00a0to restructure its debts. The company said it owes its creditors more than US$165.8m.\u00a0 The governor said settlement discussions with the company have ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Commonwealth Casino Commission (CCC)<\/strong> will meet today (April 25) to discuss\u00a0IPI’s\u00a0bankruptcy filing. It was due to discuss the possible licence revocation for IPI as well as the election of key officers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
