Tasmania’s minister for racing has revealed a plan for integrity, welfare and investment in the racing industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Australia.- The state of Tasmania has announced a plan focused on integrity, animal welfare, and infrastructure enhancements for the horseracing sector. Felix Ellis<\/strong>, minister for racing, announced the introduction of a new integrity model and the establishment of an independent Tasmanian Racing Integrity Commissioner.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the model seeks to modernise oversight mechanisms, ensuring they are evidence-based and align with best practices. Equine and Greyhound Welfare Codes of Practice<\/strong> will set minimum standards for the care and health of racing animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AU$2.81m will be allocated for operating expenses and AU$2m for capital expenditure. This funding will support infrastructural improvements at Burnie, Spreyton, and Carrick Racecourses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement comes after calls for\u00a0stricter regulations in the racing industry<\/a>. An inquiry led by racing integrity expert Ray Murrihy<\/strong> proposed\u00a0the establishment of minimum welfare standards\u00a0for racehorses and a more rigorous framework for their rehoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
