Speaking at a seminar organised by the Macao Chamber of Commerce, Secretary Lei highlighted the positive momentum seen so far, including an increase in tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitor numbers in <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-visitor-arrivals-up-104-7-in-january\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">January more than doubled those of last year<\/a>, totalling just above 2.86 million.\u00a0The Chinese New Year festivities attracted almost\u00a01.36 million visitors to the city\u00a0from February 10 to 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lei underscored the robustness of Macau&#8217;s hospitality sector, citing a <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-hotel-occupancy-rate-reaches-95-2-during-chinese-new-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hotel occupancy rate of 95.2 per cent during the recent holiday period<\/a>. He also reflected on the performance of the economy in 2023. Official GDP data is due to be released shortly, but statistics from the city&#8217;s Statistics and Census Service indicate a 77.7 per cent rise in real GDP for the nine months up to September 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau\u2019s GDP has a high correlation with the gross gaming revenue (GGR). For 2023,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-up-333-8-in-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macau\u2019s GGR<\/a>\u00a0was MOP183.06bn (US$22.75bn).
