{"id":777012276,"date":"2024-01-05T09:48:41","date_gmt":"2024-01-05T12:48:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777012276"},"modified":"2026-04-22T14:18:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T17:18:06","slug":"india-5-arrested-over-alleged-illegal-gambling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/india-5-arrested-over-alleged-illegal-gambling","title":{"rendered":"India: 5 arrested over alleged illegal gambling"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A police operation in the town of Port Blair ended with the arrest of five people involved in illegal gambling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>India.- <strong>Police forces in Port Blair<\/strong>, the largest town in the Andaman district of the Andaman Islands, conducted a police raid on an illegal gaming parlour and <strong>arrested a total of five people<\/strong> involved in the unlawful activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The raid, led by personnel from the city&#8217;s Central Crime Station, took place on January 2 and during the operation police seized some RS15,260 (US$184), described as &#8220;stake money.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to BNN, the five people allegedly involved in the illegal gambling operation were arrested under Section 5\/7 of the Andaman and Nicobar Gambling Regulation 1951, a law which was designed to combat gambling-related crimes in the country. It is unclear what penalties those arrested will face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elsewhere, two weeks ago Goa police have charged two Delhi residents in connection with the alleged theft of casino chips valued at Rs 13 lakh from&nbsp;<strong>Panjim\u2019s Neo Majestic Casino<\/strong>.
