The company launched with much promotion in October but was hit with an\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/betr-fined-us142000-for-breaching-new-south-wales-regulations\" target=\"_blank\">AU$210,000 (US$142,000) fine<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0<strong>Liquor &amp; Gaming NSW<\/strong>\u00a0in April0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator issued 14 infringement notices against Betr, citing &#8220;significant breaches of the law.&#8221; The company&#8217;s promotional tactics, particularly its 100-1 offer, came under scrutiny as these promotions reached people who had not opted to open betting accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February, the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/australias-betr-fined-again-for-marketing-breach\" target=\"_blank\">Racing Commission in the Northern Territory<\/a> ordered Betr to pay\u00a0<strong>AU$55,000<\/strong>\u00a0for sending unsolicited direct marketing communications in its first week of operation. The company was also fined AU$20,000 last December after it contacted someone on a self-exclusion register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Australian Financial Review, Betr chairman<strong> Matthew Tripp <\/strong>said News Corp had provided &#8220;initial and ongoing support&#8221; but was no longer an investor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>News Corp disclosed AU$72m in losses linked to its investment in an annual financial report.
