A civil and administrative tribunal will be held today (September 8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Director of gaming machines,\u00a0<strong>Philip Timney<\/strong>, has approved a proposal to<strong>\u00a0double the number of poker machines from 10 to 20\u00a0<\/strong>at the Todd Tavern and Gap View Hotel, owned by\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/aquis-entertainment-to-sell-casino-canberra-to-iris-capital\" target=\"_blank\">Iris Capital<\/a>. However, campaigners mounted a legal challenge, arguing that the move could exacerbate existing social problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, a survey by No New Pokies Mparntwe found that\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/alice-springs-residents-oppose-new-pokies-survey-reveals\" target=\"_blank\">98 per cent of Alice Springs residents were against more pokies<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jonathan Pilbrow<\/strong>, a spokesperson for the No Pokies in Mparntwe group, told The Guardian that there was no justification for approving the expansion.
