She made the comments during a &#8220;meet the candidates&#8221; event at Husky Sports in Huskisson.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Butler highlighted that the cultural groups in western Sydney were more prone to gambling problems and that rolling out cashless gambling to these areas first would enable them to self-regulate and prevent problem gamblers from moving to online platforms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February, premier<strong>&nbsp;Dominic Perrottet<\/strong>&nbsp;pledged that&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nsw-pm-plans-to-make-all-gaming-machines-cashless-within-five-years\" target=\"_blank\">all gambling machines<\/a>&nbsp;in New South Wales&nbsp;would become cashless by 2028&nbsp;if the coalition government was re-elected in March. However, NSW Labor wants <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nsw-labor-leader-announces-major-gambling-reforms-if-he-wins-elections\" target=\"_blank\">a trial of 500 machines<\/a>&nbsp;to ensure the technology is effective and doesn&#8217;t have unintended consequences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chris Minns<\/strong>, Labor&#8217;s leader, has previously said he would use the advice of an independent committee to decide the best places to host the trial. However, the top three local government areas with&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/63-of-sydney-gaming-machine-losses-occur-in-western-region\" target=\"_blank\">the highest poker machine losses in 2022 were all in southwestern Sydney<\/a>, with Canterbury Bankstown, Fairfield, and Cumberland topping the list.&nbsp;The Shoalhaven LGA, which covers a large part of the South Coast state electorate, recorded the sixth-highest poker machine losses in regional NSW.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nsw-crime-commission-criminals-funnel-billions-of-dollars-through-pokies\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The NSW Crime Commission<\/a>&nbsp;recommended the introduction of a cashless card to prevent money laundering through poker machines after concluding that criminals were \u201cfunnelling billions of dollars of \u2018dirty\u2019 cash through poker machines\u201d in pubs and clubs every year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Butler told The Sydney Morning Herald that money laundering was extremely rare.
