{"id":777002489,"date":"2023-02-16T14:12:38","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T17:12:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=777002489"},"modified":"2026-04-23T00:34:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T03:34:21","slug":"hkjc-ceo-calls-for-more-collaboration-in-asian-racing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hkjc-ceo-calls-for-more-collaboration-in-asian-racing","title":{"rendered":"HKJC CEO calls for more collaboration in Asian racing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges says joint efforts are needed to improve integrity, fight illegal betting and expand audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Hong Kong.- <strong>Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges<\/strong>, chairman of the Asian Racing Federation and CEO of the&nbsp;Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has urged racing leaders to embrace change and collaborate in the face of global challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Giving his opening address as the 39th Asian Racing Conference in Melbourne,&nbsp;Engelbrecht-Bresges told an audience of over 700 delegates from 35 countries, that joint efforts were needed to<strong> uphold global standards<\/strong>&nbsp;in rules and practices, <strong>fight illegal betting<\/strong>, expand audiences and brand racing as a sport of the highest integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Engelbrecht-Bresges identified nine key challenges facing the industry:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>industry fragmentation,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>integrity, illegal and off-shore betting operators,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>social acceptability,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>competition from other sports,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an ageing customer base,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>engaging Gen Y &amp; Z,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>branding racing as a global sport,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sustainability,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>human resources.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>He called for fundamental changes and collaboration to address these challenges and ensure the long-term future of the sport.
