However, state prosecutors said that only one <strong>individual<\/strong>, Christine Chue Ni Quian, had recruited the workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DOJ said it was not possible to substantiate PNP&#8217;s claim that the workers were employees of MCZ and two other companies, Eastern Group Corporation and Shuangma Corporation. It said there was no evidence of any conspiracy nor of explicit consent to commit a crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prosecutors ordered criminal charges against the named individual for syndicated trafficking and dismissed charges against the companies themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last October, deputy attorney general\u00a0<strong>Jose Dominic Clavano<\/strong>\u00a0reported that Philippine authorities had closed\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/the-philippines-shuts-214-illegal-chinese-gambling-operations\" target=\"_blank\">214 illegal Chinese offshore gambling operations<\/a>.\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/china-to-cooperate-with-philippines-battle-against-pogo-crimes\" target=\"_blank\">The Chinese government<\/a>\u00a0announced that it would intensify its cooperation with the Philippines to tackle crimes related to POGOs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Philippine senator insists banning POGOs won\u2019t affect economy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator<strong>\u00a0Sherwin Gatchalian\u00a0<\/strong>has again called for Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs)\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/philippine-senator-insists-banning-pogos-wont-affect-economy\" target=\"_blank\">to be banned<\/a>. The senator says he is working on a detailed report on the outlook of online gaming in The Philippines and that a<strong>\u00a0ban on POGOs won\u2019t affect the economy<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gatchalian said that POGOs contribute PHP35bn annually in income taxes but that in the third quarter of 2022, the collection was only PHP7.2bn, projected to reach about PHP8.5bn in December.
