Public comment is open until January 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to GGRAsia, the mayor of Tomakomai <strong>Hirofumi Iwakura<\/strong> has reiterated his support for an IR after local elections in June. He suggested the city&#8217;s Uenae area would be the preferred location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It had previously been expected that <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/hokkaido-governor-confirms-no-interest-in-ir-development-for-now\" target=\"_blank\">Hokkaido may bid for an IR<\/a> in this year&#8217;s national contest for three possible licences, but governor<strong> Naomichi Suzuki <\/strong>finally said that the prefecture wouldn&#8217;t bid in the first round of IRs. The governor cited practical concerns, such as environmental impact but said an IR could be proposed in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/japan-still-no-news-on-osaka-and-nagasaki-ir-bids\" target=\"_blank\">two contenders for the first round of IR licences<\/a> are\u00a0<strong>Osaka\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Nagasaki<\/strong>. They have <strong>submitted IR District Development Plans\u00a0<\/strong>and are waiting for a decision from the national government.
