However, the recent second outbreak of the virus in Beijing is likely to mean the restrictions remain in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bernstein said: \u201cThe outbreak in Beijing may push back the opening of the borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile there has been some minor loosening, border crossing restrictions to visitation are still largely in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere has been no new information on when IVS visa issuances may begin. But once they start, we expect a phased approach preceded by health certifications most likely (at this stage, while we remain hopeful, we are skeptical that IVSs will resume in July).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although restrictions continue, Macau\u2019s tourism numbers showed a slight recovery in May in relation to the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-sees-tourism-recover-slightly-in-may\" target=\"_blank\">Macau received 16,133 visitors in May<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, 99.5 per cent less that in May 2019, but up by 46.1 per cent compared to April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Beijing, it is unlikely that visas will be issued through the individual visit scheme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":7536,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"The resumption of Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) visas for Macau is likely to be delayed beyond July due to a new COVID-19 outbreak in Beijing, according to Bernstein Research.
