{"id":7432,"date":"2020-06-19T20:31:04","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T20:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=7432"},"modified":"2026-04-24T04:17:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T07:17:32","slug":"macau-sees-tourism-recover-slightly-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-sees-tourism-recover-slightly-in-may","title":{"rendered":"Macau sees tourism recover slightly in May"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The amount of visitors is down drastically compared to May 2019 but has recovered from April&#8217;s low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Macau.- The Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has revealed this figures for tourist visits to the city in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers obviously remain down drastically year-on-year, but show some recovery from April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Macau received 16,133 visitors in May 2020, 99.5 per cent less that in May 2019, but up by <strong><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-low-occupancy\" target=\"_blank\">46.1 per cent compared to April<\/a><\/em><\/strong> the <strong><em>DSEC<\/em><\/strong> said in a press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overnight visitors and same-day visitors reached 9,115 and 7,018 respectively. The average duration of stays increased by 4.1 days in May 2019 to 5.3 days. Those staying overnight stayed on average 14.7 days (up by 12.4 days) because of quarantine measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of mainland visitors was down by 99.4 per cent year-on-year, to 14,793 (91.7 per cent of total visitors), while there were 1,184 visitors from Hong Kong and 152 from Taiwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the DSEC calculated that in the first five months of 2020, the number of visitors to Macau dropped by 81.1 per cent in relation to the same period in 2019, to 3,246,344 in total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Same-day visitors (1,710,013) and overnight visitors (1,536,331) declined by 81.5 per cent and 80.7 per cent respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visits declined from all main markets: China (2,318,522 visitors in the first five months of 2020), Hong Kong (651,380), Taiwan (81,302), the United States (13,469), Australia (7,904) and Canada (6,175).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The amount of visitors is down drastically compared to May 2019 but has recovered from April&#8217;s low.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":7434,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's visitor arrivals in May 2020 plummeted by 99.5% year-on-year, though showing a 46.1% recovery from April's low, according to the DSEC.
