{"id":7322,"date":"2020-06-16T20:04:35","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T20:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=7322"},"modified":"2026-04-24T04:24:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T07:24:40","slug":"nagaworld-casino-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/nagaworld-casino-workers","title":{"rendered":"Workers protest at NagaWorld Casino"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Around 200 workers began a protest after the company stopped paying salaries for suspended workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Cambodia.- Around 200 casino workers staged a protest in the Cambodian Labour Ministry on Tuesday after NagaWorld reportedly stopped paying salaries due to the suspension of operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Casinos in Cambodia have been closed since the end of March due to by <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/cambodia-close-casinos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><strong>Covid-19 measures ordered<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Prime Minister Hun Sen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chhim Sithar, president of NagaWorld\u2019s employee union, told VOD that the company had originally agreed to pay workers 50 per cent of their salaries while they remained suspended, but that from this month they had stopped paying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union is demanding the Labour Ministry oblige NagaWorld to pay workers 30 per cent of their salaries and to loan a further 20 per cent, or to lend them US$300 every month until they are reinstated in their posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another option the union is considering is to allow workers to borrow the value of their salaries for 15 remaining paid holidays.
