Macau.- Resort and casino operators in Macau are looking forward to an easing of restrictions that will allow Hong Kong residents to travel to Macau without medical examination or 14-day quarantine on arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U said travellers with \u201cbusiness or practical travel needs\u201d would be able to apply to the Health Bureau for an exemption to travel to Zhuhai without a medical examination. People will be able to start applying for the permit from June 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To receive the exemption, residents will need to have medical tests two days before their intended travel, but after that they\u2019ll be able to come and go without further testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Macau government will also launch a shuttle service to Hong Kong International Airport, intended to bring back any residents stranded abroad, although those using it will have to undergo 14-day quarantine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local authorities have drawn up a new health code<\/a><\/em><\/strong> to certify residents when they visit Macau and Guangdong in order to ease border restrictions and boost the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macau\u2019s gambling industry is eager for tourism to return. The measures cannot come soon enought for resort operators such as Galaxy Entertainment Group, which has said it is losing $2.8 million a day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
