{"id":7110,"date":"2020-06-08T21:23:07","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T21:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=7110"},"modified":"2026-04-24T04:37:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T07:37:59","slug":"singapore-rules-casinos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/singapore-rules-casinos","title":{"rendered":"Singapore considers tightening casino rules"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The regulator aims to tighten the due diligence process for customers to take a tougher line on money laundering and the financing of terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore.- The Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) has confirmed it is looking at the possibility of introducing stricter controls for casinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The measures would aim to tighten the due diligence process for customers to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism, Bloomberg has reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulator has already halved the threshold for casino cash transactions that are subject to regulatory review to S$5,000 (US$3,588), although that level is still higher than the standard US$3,000 set by the anti-money-laundering watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CRA told Bloomberg: \u201cThe Ministry of Home Affairs and CRA are reviewing the legislative thresholds in the Casino Control Act with a view to lowering these thresholds further to fully comply with the FATF Standards.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the Singapore government agreed to extend casino licences held by Genting Singapore and Las Vegas Sands until 2030 in exchange for promises to invest a joint S$9 billion in tourism projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Singapore\u2019s casinos have come under fire after the US Department of Justice began an investigation last May, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/marina-bay-sands-singapore\">accusing Marina Bay Sands<\/a><\/strong> of having breached anti-money laundering regulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The regulator aims to tighten the due diligence process for customers to take a tougher line on money laundering and the financing of terrorism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":7123,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Singapore's Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) is tightening anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) due diligence processes for casinos, reviewing legislative thresholds in the Casino Control Act to align with FATF standards.
