{"id":6893,"date":"2020-06-01T06:11:59","date_gmt":"2020-06-01T06:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/?p=6893"},"modified":"2026-04-24T04:49:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T07:49:53","slug":"macau-gaming-ggr-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-ggr-may","title":{"rendered":"Macau: GGR fall 93% in May"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Macau gross gaming revenue fell 93.2% year on year in May due to crisis in the gaming industry after pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Macau.- <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-daily-gaming-revenue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><strong>Gross gaming revenues fell <\/strong><\/em><\/a>a 93.2 per cent year-on-year in May to about MOP1.7 billion (US$220.9 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a recent financial report, there is also a plunge in cumulative gaming revenues for the first five months of this year, decreasing by 73.7 per cent year-on-year to some MOP33 billion (US$4.1 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last April Macau had <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-ggr-gaming-plunged\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>its worst gaming results fall,<\/strong><\/em><\/a> with a 97 per cent year-on-year plunge to only MOP754 million (US$94 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fall in gaming revenues is related to the crisis in the gaming industry while the tourism is halted in Macau due to border restrictions intended to contain the spread of Coronavirus. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/asia-pacific\/macau-gaming-low-occupancy\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>The number of visitors went down by 76.6 per cent year-on-year<\/strong><\/em><\/a> to about 3.2 million in the first four months of 2020, with Mainland China visitors going down by more than 70 per cent to some 2.3 million, according to the <em><strong>Statistics and Census Service.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first four months this year, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms in the city also reached only 34.8 per cent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Macau gross gaming revenue fell 93.2% year on year in May due to crisis in the gaming industry after pandemic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"is_press_release":false,"is_interview":false,"is_opinion":false,"focusai_summary":"Macau's Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) experienced a precipitous 93.2% year-on-year decline in May, reaching MOP1.7 billion (US$220.9 million), driven by the ongoing crisis in the gaming industry.
